Creative Housing Awarded Fourth HUD Grant for Accessible Apartments Creative Housing has been selected for another HUD grant of $991,000 for the construction of accessible apartments. This marks the fourth year in a row that Creative Housing has received funding in the highly competitive HUD 811 Program (Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities) bringing the four year total in committed federal funds to over four million dollars. Creative Housing is working in conjunction with the Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in a multi-year plan to develop fully accessible apartments on scattered sites throughout Franklin County. The recent HUD grant is earmarked for the proposed "Apartments at Stoneridge" in Gahanna, Ohio. Creative Housing President/CEO Patrick Rafter notes, "Our partnership here in Columbus with the Franklin County Board of MR/DD has enabled us to develop one of most aggressive accessible housing programs in the county."
Apartments at two sites in Columbus and Whitehall Ohio have been completed and occupied. Two additional sites are under construction with two more sites in the development stage. Click here to view a slide show on finished units and construction in progress.
Creative Housing has also been involved in accessibility renovations for the elderly in the central Ohio area.
